Madhya Pradesh / Dewas : Bodies of five members of a family missing for several weeks were found in an 8-feet deep pit

The bodies of five members of a family, who were missing for the past one month, were retrieved from a farm in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday evening. The five were strangled to death and were buried in an already dug 8 to 10 feet deep pit. According to the police, Mamta, 45, her two daughters (21-year-old Rupali and 14-year-old Divya) and two cousins of these daughters went missing from their house in Dewas since May 13. Police said that their landlord, who was in a relationship with one of the victims, and about a dozen of his accomplices are behind the incident. Main accused Surendra and four other suspects have been arrested while search is on for seven others.

When the policemen dug the pit eight feet deep, they found five rotten bodies from different graves, none of them had clothes on them. The accused had burnt the clothes by mixing them. Not only this, the dead bodies were covered with salt and urea so that they would be ‘destroyed’ soon. Dewas police officer Shiv Dayal Singh said, “Six people, including Surendra Chauhan, have been arrested. While Chauhan planned and executed the murder, five others helped him to open the pit so that the bodies could be buried. The family had lodged a missing complaint and efforts are on to trace them. The ‘killers’ also tried to mislead the police in the matter by posting messages on social media with the ID of the woman’s elder daughter. It was claimed in the message that Rupali has got married as per her wish. Younger sister, both cousin and mother are with him and are safe.

The police ‘tracked’ Rupali’s mobile. Her call details revealed that she was in constant touch with the owner of her house. The landlord was questioned but he kept denying the question of their relationship. When the police kept an eye on him, it came to know that since May 13, he is in constant contact with five other people. When these five were interrogated separately, the police got clues about the matter. Surendra was to visit this family’s house. Though he was in a relationship with Rupali but was planning to marry another woman. When Rupali came to know about this, she posted the fiance’s photo with the number on a social media site. This angered Surendra and after that he allegedly planned to kill Rupali and others.
