Injured Shubman may be ruled out of the first Test

Indian team opener Shubman Gill may be ruled out of the first match of the five-match Test series against England due to a leg injury. The first Test match between India and England is to be held in Nottingham from August 4. An official said, Shubman may be ruled out of the first Test due to a leg injury. However, it is difficult to say whether he will be able to appear in the remaining matches of the series.

Shubman had recently failed to perform against New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) scoring 28 and eight runs. Shubman has played eight Test matches so far. Shubman has scored three half-centuries in Tests, out of which he scored two in the tour of Australia where the team registered a historic win.

However, his flop in the WTC final raised some questions and former selector Gagan Khoda had said that Shubman should go to bat in the middle order instead of opening. India have reserve openers like Mayank Agarwal and Lokesh Rahul who can go along with Rohit Sharma. The team also has a standby player in the form of Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran.
