Ajla will face Barty in the quarter finals
World No-75 Ajla Tomjanovic of Australia has reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time but her journey ahead is difficult as she now faces World No.1 Ashleigh Barty. In the pre-quarters, Ajla faced British teenager Emma Reduchanu, but she left the match midway due to difficulty in breathing. However, Azla was leading 6-4, 3-0 until the game was stopped.
It was a bad day for Emma. The 18-year-old, playing her first Grand Slam entry with a wildcard, had a chance to become the third wildcard player to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals. Azla said after the match that she felt bad for Emma because she was a talented and hardworking player. Ajla said his effort would now be to overcome Barty’s hurdle to reach the semi-finals.
