Jyotiraditya Scindia, who broke ‘friendship’ with Rahul Gandhi, became cabinet minister

‘Grandmother was Indira Gandhi’s friend, father was Rajiv Gandhi’s friend’

In the reshuffle in the Modi cabinet, attention was given to many young faces. One of them is Jyotiraditya Scindia, a strong leader of Madhya Pradesh politics. Scindia took oath as a cabinet minister in the Modi government today. He is a Rajya Sabha member from BJP. Scindia, who came to BJP after leaving Congress, was once considered very close to Rahul Gandhi. Scindia played the most important role in the formation of Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s government by toppling Kamal Nath’s government in Madhya Pradesh. It is believed that the letter of the cabinet minister is his reward.

In the last Lok Sabha elections, Jyotiraditya Scindia, who contested from Congress from Guna-Shivpuri Lok Sabha seat of Madhya Pradesh, had to face defeat. Earlier, Jyotiraditya Scindia had been winning continuously since 2009 from Guna-Shivpuri Lok Sabha seat. Later Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with his supporters. The BJP took him to the Rajya Sabha. Jyotiraditya was sworn in as a cabinet minister in the Modi cabinet on Wednesday.

He was born on 1 January 1971 in the Scindia royal family of Gwalior. He lives in the ancestral palace Jaivilas Palace in Gwalior. The cost of this building is said to be about two hundred million dollars. There is a museum in 40 rooms of this palace with about 400 rooms. According to the affidavit given by Jyotiraditya Scindia during the 2014 Lok Sabha, he has assets worth Rs 32 crore 64 lakh 412. Jyotiraditya was married to Priyadarshini of the Gaekwad Gharana of Baroda in 1984. One of Jyotiraditya’s aunt Yashodhara Raje was a minister in the Shivraj cabinet, while the other aunt Vasundhara Raje has been a former chief minister of Rajasthan from BJP.

Father Madhavrao Scindia was a nine-time Congress MP, grandmother Vijay Raje was a strong leader of BJP. Once Jyotiraditya Scindia’s father was also considered as a candidate for the post of CM in MP, died in a plane crash on 30 September 2001. After his father’s death, Jyotiraditya, who returned after studying abroad, decided to enter politics.
For the first time in 2002, he won the election from the traditional Guna parliamentary seat of his father. In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, again elected MP from this seat. For the first time in the Manmohan Singh government of UPA-1, he became a Union Minister of State in 2007. In the Manmohan Singh government of UPA-II, he was also a Union Minister of State with independent charge in 2012. After Doon School, he graduated from Harvard University in America and studied MBA from Stanford School.

Jyotiraditya Scindia has ancestral property worth crores of rupees, which includes palaces, rooms among other things. He also has an ancestral BMW car. In the Lok Sabha elections, Scindia filed his nomination from the Guna-Shivpuri parliamentary constituency, and during this affidavit, Scindia has revealed that Scindia has Jai Vilas Palace in Gwalior spread over 40 acres in the ancestral property. Apart from this, there is 19 acres of land in Shrigonda and 53 acres in Limban village in Maharashtra. Along with this, there are residential properties like Rani Mahal, Hiranvan Kothi, Racket Court, Shantiniketan, Chhoti Vishranti, Vijay Bhawan, Picnic Spot, Boot Bungalow, Railway Carriage Bell House, Electric Power House, Roshni Ghar etc. The market price of these properties is Rs 2,97,00,48,500.
