England beat Pakistan by nine wickets
The deadly bowling of fast bowler Shakib Mohammad (4 for 42) and brilliant half-centuries from openers David Malan (68 not out) and Jack Crowley (58 not out) helped England beat Pakistan by nine wickets in the first ODI in the three-match series. Took a 1-0 lead.
Pakistan’s team was bundled out for just 141 runs in 35.2 overs in front of the brilliant bowling of Shakib. For Pakistan, opener Fakhar Zaman scored 47 and Shadab Khan scored 30 runs. For England, apart from Shakib’s four wickets, Craig Overton and Matthew Parkinson took two wickets each.
Chasing the target, England lost opener Philip Shah to the team’s score of 22 but Malan and Crowley then gave England a victory in the fifth ball of the 22nd over without any further damage. England took an easy victory by scoring 142 runs in 21.5 overs. Malan hit eight fours in his unbeaten 68 off 69 balls while Crowley hit seven fours in his unbeaten 58 off 50 balls. Shakib received the Player of the Match award for his brilliant bowling.
