Punjab : No political funding to Congress from private power companies: Amarinder
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh hit out at the opposition AAP and SAD for lying on the issue of political funding from private power companies, saying that unlike illegal donations made to these parties by various shell companies, the funds provided to Congress Nothing to do with Punjab elections. Criticizing the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the Chief Minister said that political donations were made by some power companies to AICC in 2009 and 2014, not to the Punjab Congress, which had no connection with the present government of the state. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is spreading lies in a desperate attempt to mislead the people ahead of the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.
He said the power purchase agreements (PPAs) were signed by the previous SAD-BJP government, and were legally binding, so that his government could not cancel it without heavy penalty on the cash-strapped state.
The Chief Minister said that his government was looking for legal recourse to neutralize the ill-effects of the PPA without putting any further burden on the state exchequer.
