Bring medals from Olympics, make your own sports policy: CM Yogi, Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called upon the sportspersons and athletes to give suggestions for expansion of sports facilities in the state. The Chief Minister has said that whatever facilities are required by the players to prepare for competitions like Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympics in Uttar Pradesh, they will be provided. In this regard, the players/athletes will prepare a policy in collaboration with the sports department of the state.
While talking to all the 10 players/athletes of UP going to participate in Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday, Yogi wished everyone good luck and expressed confidence that this time good news will come from Tokyo. Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for the best wishes, the players committed to give their best.
In this dialogue through virtual medium, CM Yogi took information from all the 10 participants one by one about their preparations for the ongoing Olympics even in the adverse circumstances of the Corona epidemic and appreciated their spirits. At the same time, when asked about the expectations of the players from the state government, the players told the need for better arrangements to prepare for global events like Olympics. While assuring everyone, CM Yogi said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central and state governments are making constant efforts to encourage sports and sportspersons. Sports grounds and open gyms are being prepared in all the villages of the state to create an atmosphere for sports in the villages. Youth Mangal parties are being formed and sports kits are being provided to young talents.
Now a sports university is being established in Meerut. This university will emerge as a big center for the development of sports and sportspersons in the state. The CM said that all the participants should bring medals from the Olympics, then tell their action plan for the development of sports facilities at global standards in the state. Based on these suggestions, the government will make all necessary arrangements. Congratulating the parents of the players, the CM said that very soon the families of all the players would be honored by inviting them to Lucknow.
He said that the state government would provide Rs.6 crore to the gold medalists, Rs.4 crore to the silver medalists and Rs.2 crore to the sportspersons who brought bronze medals during Tokyo Olympics. Similarly, in group games an amount of Rs 3 crore will be awarded for gold medal, Rs 2 crore for silver medal and Rs 1 crore for bronze medal. Not only this, 10 lakh rupees will also be provided to all the players resident of UP participating in the Olympics.
In the dialogue program, shooter Meraj Ahmed Khan told the need for setting up shooting ranges in the state, on which the CM said that shooting ranges are being set up in Varanasi and Lucknow. He will come back from the Olympics and watch the project and help prepare it to international standards. Similarly, when athlete Priyanka Goswami pointed out the need for the development of synthetic field, the Chief Minister assured to remove this shortage soon. (Hockey), Saurabh Chaudhary (Shooting), Meraj Ahmed Khan (Shooting), Arvind Singh (Rowing), Satish Kumar (Boxing), Lalit Kumar Upadhyay (Hockey) and Shivpal Singh (Athletics) and their families were present. Earlier, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Sports and Youth Welfare, Upendra Tiwari conveyed his best wishes to the players and expressed confidence that all their needs will be met.
