IED blast at police reserve in Meghalaya, jawan injured

A constable was injured and a part of the building was partially damaged when a powerful explosive device (IED) exploded at Khalihariyat Police Reserve in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district. Banned extremist organization Honeytrap National Liberation Council (HNLC) has claimed responsibility for the IED blast. After the blast, a team of Bomb Disposal Squad reached Khalihariyat Police Reserve and collected debris from the spot.

According to information received from the police, the IED explosive was fitted in a 27 MHz remote control toy car manufactured in China.

State Home Minister Lakhmen Rimbui said the police were already investigating and looking for the perpetrators behind the blast. He also said that the police is collecting evidence from the spot.

Taking responsibility for the IED blast in Khalihariyat, HNLC general secretary Sankupar Nongtrao said, the attacks by the organization against a police institution are not new. We have started such attacks to take revenge on the police who are responsible for killing our members. Mr Nongtrao recalled that the police had arrested Bah Tiwong before burning it alive.
