In an important verdict, the Additional Sessions Court in Chikmagalur, Karnataka has sentenced four accused in an acid attack case to life imprisonment. Judge Manjunath Sangreshi also collectively imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh on them and said that the entire amount should reach the victim.

Ganesh, Kabir, Majeed and Vinod, aged between 35 and 38, are guilty. On 18 April 2015, the accused persons, on the pretext of asking for the address in Sringeri town, attacked the victim K. G. Acid was thrown on Suman’s face and shoulder.

Ganesh, who was once the victim’s classmate, was in love with her unilaterally, but Suman rejected her proposal and got married elsewhere.
Ganesh then spoiled the marriage of the victim’s husband by dissolving poison in his mind. When she came back to his home with a child after getting divorced, he began torturing her to marry him again.

The gang followed him till the entrance of his house and asked for his address. When the victim turned towards them, Kabir and Majeed poured acid on her. Another accused Vinod was informing them about all his activities. The whole plan was made by Ganesh.

Although there was no direct evidence of this, ACP Sudhir M. Hegde, who was then working as an inspector at the Sringeri police station, investigated the matter and submitted a charge sheet against the accused persons.

The court, after examining 30 witnesses, 105 documents and other materials, convicted all the accused and sentenced them to life imprisonment with its 160-page judgment.
