The Uttar Pradesh government said on Friday that it is talking to “Kanwar Sanghs” keeping in mind the situation of Kovid and the government’s effort is not to hurt religious sentiments and prevent the epidemic. Lets do it.

Uttar Pradesh’s neighboring state Uttarakhand had canceled the Kanwar Yatra on Tuesday itself. Along with this, it has also been decided to close the state border for Kanwariyas from July 24. Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar told this. The Uttarakhand government has given permission to the states to carry Ganga water from Haridwar through tankers.

Taking suo moto cognizance of the Kanwar Yatra case, the Supreme Court had sought a response from the UP government and the Center. The UP government had told the court that a symbolic yatra would be organized, and only those devotees who had received the corona vaccine would be allowed to participate. The central government did not oppose the Kanwar Yatra, stating it as a religious belief.

Every year about 30 lakh Kanwariyas walk from different places of North India to bring Gangajal from Haridwar and offer it to Shiva temples located in their respective regions.

The fortnightly yatra, which begins with the beginning of the month of Shravan according to the Hindu calendar, lasts till the first week of August and sees a large gathering of Kanwariyas from neighboring states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi to Haridwar. Last year, the Kanwar Sanghas had themselves suspended the yatra after talks with the government.
