Opposition will move privilege motion against the minister in Rajya Sabha
The opposition will today move a privilege motion against Minister of State for Health Bharti Praveen Pawar for misleading the Parliament by giving false information. Pawar had said in Parliament that there were no deaths due to lack of oxygen during the second wave of the Covid pandemic.
The Congress and several other parties had said that they were sending notices and would move a privilege motion against Pawar. CPI’s Binoy Vishwam has already given notice for the privilege motion.
Congress had said that it will take action. Talking to the media, Congress leader K.C. Venugopal said he would bring a privilege notice against the minister.
The Congress leader said, this is a blind and careless government. People have seen how many loved ones have died due to lack of oxygen.
Venugopal said, “Actually, the minister has misled the house and I will certainly present a privilege notice against that minister as the minister has misled the house by giving wrong information.”
The government informed the Rajya Sabha that there were no deaths reported by states and union territories during the second wave of COVID-19 due to lack of oxygen.
In a written reply, Pawar said, “Detailed guidelines for reporting of deaths have been issued by the Union Health Ministry to all States and Union Territories. Accordingly, all states and union territories report cases and deaths to the Union Health Ministry on a regular basis. However, no deaths have been reported by the states and union territories specifically due to lack of oxygen.
Apart from the issue of death due to oxygen, the other issue that dominates the proceedings of the House is the espionage controversy. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav will make a statement in Parliament on Pegasus controversy.
