Bihar / Katihar : Mayor shot dead, 4 people arrested

Mayor Shivraj Paswan was shot dead by unknown criminals last night in the Nagar police station area of Katihar district of Bihar. The reason for the murder is not yet clear. Here, in this case an FIR has been registered on the statement of the brother of the deceased. The police have arrested four people in this case. A police officer said that Paswan was coming on a bike from somewhere in the night when three miscreants surrounded Santoshi Chowk and opened fire. The people gathered on hearing the sound of firing took him to Katihar Medical College Hospital in an injured condition, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Katihar Deputy Superintendent of Police Amar Kant Jha said that the reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained, the police is probing the matter from all angles. He said that on the statement of the brother of the deceased, an FIR of murder has been registered in the city police station. In the FIR lodged, 12 named and other unknown people have been made accused. He said that four of these accused have been arrested while raids are on to nab the other accused.
Meanwhile, a pistol has been recovered from the railway line, it is feared that the criminals might have escaped after throwing the weapon after the murder.
Here, sources say that the deceased had gone to a panchayat on Thursday and after that they were murdered.
Here, angry people from the incident demonstrated fiercely in front of the police station and demanded the early arrest of the criminals. The police claim that the culprits will be arrested soon.
Meanwhile, the matter reached the Assembly. Opposition members protested outside the assembly on Friday over the killing of the mayor and the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
