Congress MLA from Assam Sushant joins BJP

Two-time Congress MLA from Assam Sushant Borgohain on Friday quit the party and joined the BJP. Borgohain, who won from Thaura assembly constituency in eastern Assam’s Jorhat district, also resigned from the assembly, reducing the Congress’ strength in the 126-member house from 29 seats in the March-April election to 27.
After joining the BJP, the 47-year-old leader told the media that he was not happy with the current atmosphere in the Congress.
Earlier, Borgohain met Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and took his blessings.
Sarma tweeted, “I am glad to meet the honorable MLA of Thaura, Sushant Borgohain, who today (Sunday) resigned from the Congress to join the BJP. Young and energetic, the party will be greatly strengthened and benefited by their joining us. I welcome him to BJP.
On June 21, Rupjyoti Kurmi, a four-time Congress MLA and prominent Assam tea garden leader, quit the party and joined the saffron party.
