Uttar Pradesh / Amroha : Gang rape with wife for not fulfilling dowry demand

A 27-year-old woman from the district has lodged a complaint at the Rajabpur police station. In this case 12 members of her husband’s family have been booked under IPC and dowry sections for gang rape, cruelty to woman, unnatural offense and voluntarily aborting a woman. The woman, who is allegedly raped, has alleged that a family member of her husband and his friend told her that it would continue if her husband did not get her an SUV and Rs five lakh as dowry.

The complaint states, I got married three years ago. My parents gave a lot as dowry. After a few months, my husband and his family demanded Rs 5 lakh in cash and a luxury car. When I refused to pressurize my father for dowry, he started torturing me.

She further wrote in her complaint that when I became pregnant, they forced me to have an abortion. He started hitting me. My husband forced me to commit unnatural crimes. When I went to my parents’ house, they convinced me to come back and I agreed.
She alleged that last week, her brother-in-law and her friend raped her and when she informed her husband about the incident, he said it would continue if she did not get the SUV and Rs five lakh. After that she went to her parents’ house.

Amroha Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pratap Singh said, “We have registered a case on the basis of the complaint and the arrest of the accused is yet to take place.”
