CBI registers 11 cases in connection with post-poll violence in Bengal

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered 11 separate cases as part of its probe into serious cases of post-poll violence in West Bengal. The agency gave this information on Friday. The Center has provided CRPF security to CBI teams to probe the cases, amid fears of local people and state administration obstructing the probe.
The agency said so far they have registered eleven different cases after the investigation was handed over by the Calcutta High Court.

Earlier on May 3, a case was registered against 12 accused and unknown people at Ganganapur police station in Nadia district for attacking a victim with bamboo sticks.
The second case was earlier registered at Kotulpur police station in Bankura district on July 4 against three accused on the allegation that they along with other unidentified persons had kidnapped a victim on May 6, whose body was found in a pond two days later. Got a pass.

The third case was earlier registered on May 14 at Chhapra police station in Nadia district against eight persons who are accused of attacking a person with a chopper.
The fourth case was earlier registered at Sindhu police station in Bankura district on June 10 against 30 accused and other unidentified persons on the allegation that they had attacked some houses in the area with weapons and also sexually assaulted female members. They also allegedly kidnapped a man and later hung him from a tree.
The fifth case was earlier registered at Nabagram police station in Murshidabad district against three gang-rape accused on May 10.

The sixth case was registered on May 2 at Narkeldanga police station in Kolkata against 7-8 unidentified persons for assaulting a victim with sticks.
The seventh case was earlier registered at Bhatpara police station in North 24 Parganas district on June 6 against four persons for visiting a victim’s house and abusing her and other family members. One of the accused threw a bomb on the victim’s forehead, leading to her death.

The eighth case was earlier registered at Tufanganj police station in Cooch Behar district against 16 people on May 5 for assaulting two people, one of whom died.
On June 14, the ninth case was registered against 10 people at the Kotwali police station in Nadia district for allegedly attacking the complainant’s house with weapons.
They allegedly ransacked the complainant’s house and dragged her husband, who was later shot dead, the CBI said.

The 10th case was earlier registered at Ketugram police station in East Burdwan district in connection with the brutal murder of a 22-year-old youth.

The 11th case was earlier registered at Usti police station in South 24 Parganas district against six persons for assaulting the complainant and his family members. The younger son of the complainant died due to bullet injuries from close range.
