Estonia has only one candidate in the presidential election
So far, only one candidate has filed for Estonia’s presidential election on Monday. This is an unprecedented situation in Estonia in the 30 years since independence. President Kersty Kaljulaid’s five-year term ends on October 10 and lawmakers in the 101-seat parliament have to elect a new president. Alar Karis, director of the National Museum of Estonia, is the only contender for the position so far. There is only time till Saturday night to present the presidential candidacy. Only Qaris has been able to garner the support of a minimum of 21 MPs.
