Uttar Pradesh : Now the Yogi government is preparing to rename Sultanpur district as ‘Kush Bhawanpur’

Approval can be given in the next cabinet meeting

After changing the name of Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh to Ayodhya, now its neighboring district Sultanpur can also soon be named ‘Kush Bhawanpur’ after Lord Rama’s son Kush. Sources say that the proposal to change the name has been sent by the Uttar Pradesh Board of Revenue to the state government. A decision will be taken in the next cabinet for its approval.

A report by the Sultanpur district administration citing historical records in the District Gazetteer states that the city was known as Kush Bhavanpur in the year 1300. The Bhar dynasty ruled here before it was invaded by the army of Alauddin Khilji. After the invasion of Khilji, its name was changed to Sultanpur.

According to a report, Sultanpur District Magistrate Ravish Gupta said that a few months ago, when we saw the records on the basis of the District Gazetteer, it was found that during the reign of Alauddin Khilji in the year 1300, the city was destroyed by his army. Since then it is known as Sultanpur. We had informed the government about this only a few months back.

On December 21, 2018, BJP MLA from Lambhua Devmani Dwivedi raised the issue of Sultanpur. He claimed that he had found some historical records which showed the city was known by various names associated with Kush and the House should unanimously approve the name of Kush Bhavanpur.
