The last plane carrying British soldiers leaves from Kabul airport
The last plane carrying British troops from Afghanistan has left the airport in the capital, Kabul. Britain’s Ministry of Defense gave this information on Sunday. According to the UK’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Laurie Bristow, about 15,000 British and Afghan nationals have been evacuated from Kabul in the past two weeks. About 1000 soldiers as well as diplomatic and civilian personnel participated in this campaign.
Earlier on Saturday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson discussed the situation in Afghanistan with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte. The three leaders agreed to prioritize evacuation from Afghanistan to its citizens and local workers and those in need of asylum, along with humanitarian assistance for regional refugees.
