Hetmyer leads Delhi to victory against CSK

Delhi Capitals defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by three wickets in the 50th match of IPL 2021 played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium here on the basis of Shimron Hetmyer’s batting. Delhi captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, CSK scored 136 for five in 20 overs. Chasing the target, Delhi won the match by scoring 139 for seven in 19.4 overs with the help of two fours and a six off Hetmyer’s unbeaten 28 runs in 19.4 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur took two wickets each for CSK, while Deepak Chahar, Josh Hazlewood and Dwayne Bravo got one wicket each. With this win, Delhi’s team has reached the top of the table with 20 points from 13 matches with 10 wins.

Chasing the target, Delhi’s start was not special and Prithvi Shaw was dismissed for 18 runs off 12 balls with the help of three fours. After some time Shreyas Iyer (2) also could not last long.

Shikhar Dhawan then took over the innings with Pant, but Pant was also dismissed as the third batsman after scoring 15 runs off 12 balls with the help of a four and a six. Ripple Patel was then dismissed by Jadeja, giving CSK the fourth breakthrough. Ripple scored 18 runs in 20 balls with the help of two fours.

Hetmyer played an explosive innings to take Delhi to a comfortable position but Akshar (5) was dismissed in the last over. However, Kagiso Rabada, who came in as a new batsman, gave the team victory in the very first ball with a four.

Earlier, openers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad opened the innings. There was only a 28-run partnership between the two batsmen that Axar Patel gave the first blow to CSK by dismissing Du Plessis (10). After this, Robin Uthappa, playing his first match in this season, came to bat. Ruturaj, who scored a century in the previous match, was again in good form today, but he was sent to the pavilion by Enrich Nortje. Ruturaj scored 13 runs. Ambati Rayudu and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni then took over the innings and shared a partnership of 70 runs in 64 balls for the fifth wicket between the two. During this, Rayudu also completed his half-century.

At one time it seemed that these two batsmen would take the team towards a big score, but Avesh gave a blow to CAK by dismissing Dhoni (18). Jadeja and Rayudu, who came to bat after this, batted till the end of the innings. Rayudu remained unbeaten on 55 off 43 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes, while Jadeja remained unbeaten on one run. For Delhi, Akshar took two wickets while Nortje, Avesh Khan and Ashwin took one wicket each.
