Modi government strict regarding the infection of ‘Omicron’, those coming to India from these 12 countries will be tested
After the cases of new strain Omicron of COVID-19 continuously coming from different countries around the world, now the Government of India has also become alert about it. The Modi government at the Center has asked countries at high risk of corona infection to take samples of such travelers who have come to India in the last two weeks who have been found to be COVID positive. There are a total of 12 countries from where the sample of travelers coming to India is now being collected. After this these samples will be sent for testing.
According to the information, currently India has included European countries including South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong, Israel, UK in its list of high risk countries.
Cases of infection have been found in these countries
Significantly, the first case of the new strain of COVID-19, Omicron, was reported from South Africa. After this, cases of its infection were also reported from Botswana, Belgium, Hong Kong and Israel. The World Health Organization has also expressed concern about this new variant of Kovid. WHO issued a warning regarding this saying that it can spread at a faster rate than other variants of corona so far.
Very fast transition to new variants
The study done so far on Omicron has revealed that the speed of its infection is very fast. Experts have expressed concern over the transmission potential of the virus. At present, it has been made mandatory for passengers coming from other countries to bring RTPCR report or else the test of a passenger was done when any kind of symptoms were seen in it. Now the government has changed this and all the passengers coming to India will have to go through the test.
According to a government official, at present, the turnaround time from sample collection to sequencing data generation and variant identification is two weeks. Across India, eight laboratories have been designated for testing, the official said.
12 crore people did not take the vaccine
The government is also planning to intensify awareness campaigns for those who have not even received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. There are still about 10-12 crore people in the country who have not taken a single dose of the vaccine. The official said the government has also fast-tracked the genomic sequencing reports from four weeks to a week. He said that we have given priority to genome sequencing to closely monitor the situation. Earlier, it used to take around four weeks to prepare a report. However, considering the need of the hour, now the report will be prepared within a week.
