Maharashtra / Palghar : More than 21 thousand kg of beef recovered, two accused arrested

Maharashtra Police has seized 21,018 kg of beef from the Kasa area of Palghar. Along with this, two persons from Tamil Nadu (Rajendra and Ranjit Kumar) were arrested in this case. Both the accused were allegedly transporting beef from Tamil Nadu to Thane in a container truck. The cost of beef caught by Palghar police is Rs 20.6 lakh. An official gave this information on Saturday.
Senior Inspector Ajay Vasave said that based on a tip-off, the district rural police laid a trap at Ghol village on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Palghar and intercepted a container truck. On inspection, the police found that beef was being transported to the state from Tamil Nadu. The official said the transporters had given fake statements about the consignment and tried to flee, but they were caught.

A total of 21,018 kg of beef worth Rs 20 lakh was seized from the vehicle, he said, adding that the illegal consignment was to be delivered to Taloja.
A case has been registered against accused Kolinchinath Rajendra Vaniyar (37) and Ranjit Kumar Ganesan (36), the official said. Both are residents of Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu. He said that the police have registered a case against the owner of the container truck and others linked to the crime under relevant sections of the IPC, Maharashtra Animal Protection Act and Cruelty to Animals Act.
