Gujarat: One arrested for making derogatory remarks on General Bipin Rawat on FB

A 44-year-old man has been arrested in Gujarat for allegedly making derogatory remarks about the death of Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat. The accused had made this comment on Facebook, after which the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell arrested him on Thursday. However, the police clarified that he has been arrested over old posts, which also used abusive language. But this has come to the fore just after making his new comment.
A release from the Cyber Crime Cell said that the accused has been identified as Shivbhai Ram, a resident of Bherai village in Rajula taluka of Amreli district of Gujarat. The release, however, did not mention anything about his alleged remarks against General Rawat.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Jitendra Yadav said that Ram has been arrested for his old posts in which he made derogatory remarks about Hindu deities as well as elected representatives on his Facebook page “Shivabhai Ahir”.
It has also been said that the accused has been arrested under section 153-A for promoting enmity between different groups and under section 295-A of the IPC.
ACP Yadav said, ‘The accused came on our radar after sharing some derogatory posts on General Bipin Rawat. On scanning his timeline, we came to know that he had shared objectionable posts about Hindu gods and goddesses in the past as well. He also used derogatory words for elected representatives in his Facebook posts.
After registering the FIR, the cybercrime officials arrested Ram from his native place Amreli. The police officer said that investigation has revealed that Ram had political ambitions and wanted to be in the limelight by sharing objectionable posts.
The ACP also said, Shivbhai was the deputy sarpanch of his village between 2010 and 2014. He has ambitions to be elected as sarpanch in the coming years, so he was trying to attract people’s attention by raising sensitive issues through social media.
