Unapproved vaccine being given to 15-18 year olds instead of ‘Covaxin’: Bharat Biotech

Hyderabad-based vaccine maker Bharat Biotech said on Friday that it has received reports that other COVID-19 vaccines are being administered in the country to children in the age group of 15-18 years apart from Covaxin. Bharat Biotech has urged all healthcare workers to administer only Covaxin vaccine to children and said that Covaxin is the only approved COVID vaccine for this age group.
Bharat Biotech’s release said, “We have received several reports of other COVID-19 vaccines being administered to children in the age group of 15-18 years. We humbly request healthcare workers to be extremely vigilant and ensure that We urge that individuals in the age group of 15-18 years be given Covaxin only.”

“Covaxin has been approved based on extensive clinical trials and its evaluation for safety and strengthening of the immune system in the age group of 2-18 years. Currently, it is the only approved drug for children in India,” the release said. There is a COVID-19 vaccine.”

The COVID-19 vaccination program for children in the age group of 15 to 18 years has been started from January 3, 2022. The Union Health Ministry has also informed the states and union territories that only ‘Covaxin’ vaccines are to be given in this population category. For this, the Center has sent additional doses of ‘Covaxin’ to all the states and union territories.
