Arrest warrant issued against Sahara chairman Subrata Rai, order of Patna High Court

Patna High Court has issued arrest warrant against Sahara India chairman Subrata Rai. He was to appear in the Patna High Court on Friday, but he did not reach the court. Angered by this, the Patna High Court has ordered the DGPs of Bihar, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to arrest Subrata Rai and present him in the court. A single bench of Justice Sandeep Kumar, during the last hearing on April 27, had directed him to physically appear before the high court on May 11 and explain how he can return the money to the investors. Since he could not come to Patna on May 11, the matter was adjourned till May 12.

During the hearing on April 27, the Patna High Court had asked Sahara India’s lawyer Umesh Prasad Singh to submit a detailed report on how Sahara India will return the money to the investors of Bihar. In his reply, Singh had suggested some alternative ways to return the money to the investors, but Justice Sandeep Kumar did not show interest in it.

He firmly told the lawyer that the court would not tolerate further excuses of Subrata Roy. At present, more than 2000 cases related to the alleged fraud of Sahara India have been filed in the Patna High Court. However, the actual number of people who have been cheated is in lakhs. Many of these have already died.
