50 thousand four wheelers passed through Delhi-Doon highway in 18 hours, the jam got rid of sweat

For the Buddha Purnima bath to be held on Monday and on Monday, there was such an influx of devotees and tourists from outside states in Haridwar that not only the four-lane highway but also the roads inside the city were blocked. The local people along with the passengers struggled with the jam from morning till evening. The scorching heat and jam made people sweat. The traffic police had to struggle hard to clear the jam.

These days the Chardham Yatra is at its peak. A large number of people from all over the country are reaching the Yatra. A large number of pilgrims from Delhi, NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haridwar and Himachal Pradesh reached Haridwar due to Chardham Yatra being Sunday holiday and Buddha Purnima bathing tomorrow. Passengers started reaching here from last Saturday evening itself.

On Sunday morning, there was such a rally of vehicles on the Haridwar-Delhi highway that all the arrangements of the police fell short. The line of vehicles which started on the highway from morning was not taking the name of decreasing till afternoon. In the morning itself, there was a jam from outside Rishikul till Shantikunj. This jam reached till Jwalapur.

As the day progressed, the situation worsened. The jam can be estimated from the fact that the distance from Jwalapur to Shantikunj is 10 kilometers and it took two to two and a half hours to cover this distance. The effect of the highway jam was visible on the inner roads of the city. After this, there was a jam from City Post Office to Devpura Chowk and Shiv Chowk to Tulsi Chowk.

Due to the jam on the upper road, it became difficult to walk even on foot. Due to the haphazard plying of e-rickshaws and autos inside the city, the problem of traffic jam has increased continuously. Traffic Inspector Vikas Pundir, Traffic Sub Inspector Arvind Rana, Traffic Police constables and CPU personnel struggled to clear the jam since 7 am. The jam was relieved after 6 in the evening, but due to heavy traffic, the vehicles were passing slowly.

Bottle neck jam from Shantikunj Gate number two to Saptarishi Tirahe is becoming a big problem for the traffic police as well as the commuters at this time. It is taking 50-60 minutes for the commuters to cross this bottle neck. The jam which started at 6 am came under the control of the traffic police till 6 pm. In such a situation, the constables and inspectors of the traffic police, who were on duty at the square-intersections for 12 hours, and the constables of the CPU, remained hungry and thirsty, making every effort to open the jam.

The traffic police struggled to keep the movement of 60 thousand vehicles completely smooth for 18 hours on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. After many years, there has been an influx of vehicles like this on the highway. If this continues even further, then the four-lane highway should not have to be six-lane soon. After about two years, such a large number of vehicles were seen in Haridwar for the Chardham of Uttarakhand, summer season as well as the weekend and Buddha Purnima bath.

According to the data of Bahadarabad toll plaza and traffic police, 60 thousand four wheelers were seen in Haridwar on the highway, major roads and streets of the city for 18 hours. According to the officials of Bahadarabad toll plaza, 16847 vehicles went towards Haridwar from 12 pm on Saturday night to 6 pm on Sunday. 20835 vehicles went from Haridwar to Delhi. Along with this, 10 thousand vehicles of local and two wheelers traveling on Chardham Yatra also remained in the city on Sunday. About 12 thousand vehicles arrived from Najibabad side.
