Uttarakhand / Haridwar : A herd of elephants attacked the farmers, one died, three jumped into the Gangnahar and saved their lives

Four farmers going on bike were attacked by a herd of elephants in Laldhang, Haridwar. A farmer was killed in the attack. The remaining three farmers somehow saved their lives by running away. On Sunday evening, 55-year-old Malkit Singh son Santram Singh, resident of Pili Pav, was going on two bikes along with his three farmer companions to buy fertilizers and seeds for Shyampur farming.

On reaching some distance, a herd of elephants wandering in search of water surrounded them. Three farmers even saved their lives by jumping into the closed Ganga Nahar but Malkit Singh could not escape. Malkit Singh was seriously injured by the elephant attack. When the companions started making noise, the forest department team patrolling nearby ran towards the spot. After hard work, the elephants were driven towards the forest. The forest department team took the injured Malkit Singh to Shyampur on a bike. He was taken to the district hospital by ambulance from Shyampur but was declared brought dead there.

Shyampur Ranger Yashpal Rathore says that nowadays elephants are wandering here and there in search of water due to the heat. Efforts will be made to get compensation to the families of the victims. On the other hand, there is chaos among the relatives of the deceased. At the same time, anger is growing among the local people against the forest department. People say that the forest department should ban elephants. Water should be arranged for them in the forest itself so that they cannot come out of the forest and attack the people.
