Jammu and Kashmir : Situation changed in Valley after teacher’s murder, more than 100 Hindu families migrated – Report
Incidents of increased target killings in the Kashmir Valley have created new trouble in front of the government. A community leader on Wednesday claimed that at least 100 Hindu families have fled Kashmir after the killing of a Hindu teacher in Kulgam. Terrorists on Tuesday shot dead 36-year-old Rajni Bala outside a government school in Kulgam, south of Srinagar.
Avtar Krishna Bhat, president of a Kashmiri Pandit colony in Baramulla, said that since Tuesday nearly half of the 300 families living in the area have migrated. They claimed that they were scared after yesterday’s murder. We will also leave by tomorrow, we are waiting for the government’s reply. He said the government had asked us to shift out of Kashmir.
Srinagar area sealed
Residents claimed that the police have sealed an area in Srinagar and beefed up security at places where Kashmiri Pandit government employees live. While the local administration did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the exodus of the families, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha last month assured Kashmiri Pandits that measures would be taken to protect them.
Rahul Bhatt was murdered last month
Last month, Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit working in the Tehsil office, was shot dead inside his office, following which other employees of the Kashmiri Pandit community protested. They had demanded to be relocated to safe areas outside the Kashmir Valley.
