These protests were triggered across the world after the then BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal made objectionable remarks against Prophet Mohammad.

The remarks have also sparked reactions from Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and Iran. Several countries demanded a public apology for the remarks.

Although the BJP suspended Nupur Sharma and expelled Naveen Jindal from the party, the protesters are demanding the arrest of the leaders.

They are of the view that merely suspending the leader from the party will not put a complete stop to such remarks. Some of them even demanded death penalty for political leaders.

In India, protests broke out in various cities on Friday against the remarks on the Prophet.

Protesters protest outside the historic Jama Masjid after Friday prayers, demanding the arrest of Nupur Sharma, in Delhi.

Several students of Jamia Millia Islamia demonstrated in the university campus and demanded the arrest of Sharma. They raised slogans and also carried placards on which it was written – blasphemy is the birth language of RSS, save India from them, arrest Nupur Sharma and stop attacking Muslims.

Due to tension in some areas of Bhaderwah and Kishtwar in Jammu, the authorities imposed curfew while some parts of Kashmir remained closed.

In Srinagar, placards were held in the hands of protesters at Lal Chowk, Batamaloo, Tengpora and other places.

Protests also took place at many places in Uttar Pradesh. In Prayagraj, the police used tear gas shells and lathi-charged to disperse the protesters.
