What’s the matter?
According to Delhi Police officials, a case has been registered on the basis of a post on a Twitter account named Hanuman Bhakt @balajikijaiin. Actually, a post was made from a Twitter handle named Mohammad Zubair. In this post, he had filed a complaint regarding the post ‘Before 2014: Honeymoon Hotel’. It had two pictures in which he posted ‘Before 2014: Honeymoon Hotel’ and After 2014: Hanuman Hotel. The signboard of ‘Honeymoon Hotel’ in the picture (in the tweet) was changed to ‘Hanuman Hotel’. Hanuman Bhakt @balajikijain tweeted, “Associating our Lord Hanuman ji with honeymoon is a direct insult to Hindus as he is celibate. Please take action against this man.
What did Delhi Police say?
Delhi Police says that Zubair’s post containing pictures and words against a particular religious community was highly provocative and deliberate. According to the police, this was more than enough to incite hatred among the people which could be detrimental to the maintenance of public peace.
Called for questioning, then arrested
The officer said Zubair was called for questioning on Monday and his arrest was registered after sufficient evidence was found on record. Zubair will be produced before a magistrate for police remand.
Opposition came in favor of Zubair
Opposition parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress and AIMIM have condemned the action of Delhi Police. Terming the arrest as a complete violation of due process, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi alleged that Delhi Police does nothing about anti-Muslim genocide slogans.
