These mosquitoes will prevent the transmission of diseases like dengue and chikungunya.
Aedes aegypti mosquitoes infected with bacteria
In fact, scientists have infected Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which spread diseases like dengue, with two species of Wolbachia bacteria (w-mel and w-albb). Scientists told that these bacteria make their home in every cell of mosquitoes. After this, it dominates the virus like dengue. take control of them. During research it was found that mosquitoes which were infected with these bacteria were not capable of spreading dengue. That is, the effect of dengue was reduced.
How to deal with infected mosquitoes
The female mosquitoes created by the scientists will be released which will come in contact with the male mosquitoes and produce such larvae which will not contain dengue virus. Gradually the mosquitoes that spread dengue will be eradicated and there will be mosquitoes again which cannot spread such disease. Dr. Ashwini said that special female mosquitoes and eggs have been prepared. They can be dropped at any time. However, this experiment is yet to be approved by the government for practical use.
