West Indies – 311/6 (50 overs)
India – 312/8 (49.4 ov)
Three wickets fell for 79 runs
Chasing the target, India had a good start. Captain Dhawan and Shubman Gill shared a 48-run partnership for the first wicket in 11 overs. During this, Gill appeared in touch but Dhawan was struggling for one run each. Dhawan, facing 31 balls, scored just 13 runs and went on the ball of Romario Shepherd. After Dhawan’s dismissal, India lost the wickets of Shubman Gill (43) and Suryakumar Yadav (9). Both players were trapped by Kyle Meyers in his net.
Important partnership between Sanju-Shreyas
Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson took the lead after losing three wickets for 79 runs. Both the players batted at a fast pace and put pressure on the Windies bowlers. Sanju and Shreyas shared a 99-run partnership for the fourth wicket. While Shreyas Iyer scored 63 runs in 71 balls, Samson scored 54 runs in his first ODI career.
Then another twist came in the match
Once again the twist came in the match when Shreyas and Sanju Samson kept walking in the interval of few overs. Due to this, India’s score was reduced to 205 runs for five wickets. In such a situation, Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel made a partnership of 51 runs to put India in the match. Deepak Hooda scored 33 runs off 36 balls.
India still needed 56 runs off 35 balls after Deepak Hooda was dismissed as the sixth wicket. In such a situation, Axar Patel made a fruitful partnership with Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan and brought India closer to the target.
8 runs to be scored in the last over
India needed eight runs in the last over. In that over bowled by Kyle Meyers, Akshar on the second ball and Siraj on the third ball took one run each. Now six runs were to be scored in three balls and both the teams could have won the match. In such a stressful situation, Axar gave India a memorable victory by hitting a six off the fourth ball. Axar Patel was the player of the match.
Windies scored 311 runs with Hope’s century
Batting first after winning the toss, West Indies scored 311 for six in 50 overs. Shai Hope scored a brilliant century in his 100th ODI match. Hope faced 125 balls and played an innings of 115 runs with the help of 8 fours and three sixes. While captain Nicholas Pooran contributed 74 and Kyle Meyers contributed 39 runs. During this tour, Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran also made a great partnership of 117 runs for the fourth wicket. Shardul Thakur got the most three successes from India.
