India’s crushing defeat in Commonwealth Hockey final, Indian men’s team had to be satisfied with silver medal

Australia defeated India in the final of men’s hockey at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The Indian team has lost the match 7-0. With this, India’s dream of winning gold in this mega tournament was once again broken. Earlier in 2010 and 2014 also India lost in the final to Australia. Team India has been able to win any medal in the Commonwealth after 2014. Interestingly, in all three Commonwealth finals against Australia, the Indian team could not score a single goal.
With this victory, Australia won its 7th consecutive gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. No team has been able to beat Australia in the final since 1998. This was the last event in the Commonwealth Games. India has got 22 Gold, 16 Silver and 23 Bronze. In this way, India won a total of 61 medals. India remained at number four in the points table.
Indian team could not stand anywhere in front of Australia
The Indian defenders managed to thwart Australia’s two penalty corners, but Australia scored in the third attempt. The Black Gowers opened their team’s account in the 9th minute. Nathan Epharmus doubled Australia’s lead with a field goal in the 14th minute.
India reached the finals in 2010 and 2014
The Indian men’s hockey team reached the finals of the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games and the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Then Australia defeated India in the gold medal match. Under the leadership of Manpreet Singh, the Indian team showed a great game before the final. The team was unbeaten in the tournament.
