2000 note is neither in the ATM nor in the bank; Know where they disappeared after 6 years of demonetisation

6 years ago today i.e. on 8th November, 15.52 lakh crores of 500 and 1000 rupees were out of the economy. New 500 rupees and 2000 rupees big notes came in the market. Of these, 500 notes are in the market but 2000 notes have disappeared. 2000 notes were the most in circulation in the country during 2017-18. There were 33630 lakh notes of 2000 in the market then. Their number decreased year after year.

RBI has stopped printing 2000 notes for the last two years. 500 notes are still in trend in the market, but the biggest note of two thousand is not seen much. The bigger the note is, the easier it becomes to make that note counterfeit, so RBI is not printing big notes to prevent corruption.

RBI had printed 329.10 crore notes of two thousand in 2019. In March 2020, this figure came down to Rs 273 crore. And in 2021-22, not a single two thousand note was printed. RBI had printed 6800 crore dice and two thousand notes after 2016. Out of these, there is no trace of one thousand six eighty crores because these notes have been stocked.
