ISRO’s report scares! Rudraprayag and Tehri districts of Uttarakhand are most at risk of landslides in the country!
Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand is most prone to landslides in the country. Tehri ranks second among the 10 most vulnerable districts in the country in terms of landslide risk. This has been revealed in the recently released landslide map report of the National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC) of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Landslide risk analysis has been done in the report. According to this, all 13 districts of Uttarakhand are included in the 147 districts most affected by landslides. Among these, Chamoli district ranks 19th in the country in terms of landslide risk.
Let us tell you that Joshimath city of Chamoli district is under the threat of landslide these days. Scientists are sensing the danger by examining its technology. However, the report of pictures taken from the satellite is showing that Uttarkashi is at 21st position in the country. Pauri is 23rd in Garhwal and 29th in Dehradun district.
11 out of 12 districts in Himachal are sensitive
The NRSC’s landslide risk analysis includes 11 districts in the neighboring state of Himachal out of 146 districts. Mandi district is most prone to landslides in Himachal. The rank of this district is 16th in the country. Hamirpur at 25th, Bilaspur at 30th, Chamba at 32nd, Solan at 37th, Kinnaur at 46th, Kullu at 57th, Shimla at 61st, Una at 70th, Siraumar at 88th and Lahaul Spiti at 126th.
Out of 14 sensitive districts of Jammu and Kashmir, two districts in top ten
14 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, included in the Himalayan states, figure in the list of landslide-prone districts. Among these, Rajouri is the fourth and Poonch is the sixth most landslide-affected district in the country. Apart from these, Jammu at 14th, Udhampur at 17th, Pulwama at 27th, Kathua at 42nd, Anantnag at 52nd, Baramulla at 58th, Doja at 79th, Srinagar at 98th, Budgam at 119th, Kargil at 123rd, Kargil at 132nd and Leh Ladakh district at 136th Is.
These districts of Kerala are most sensitive
Three districts of Kerala figure in the list of 10 most landslide prone districts. Kerala has a total of 10 districts in the list of 147 vulnerable districts which are prone to landslides.
Most at risk of social and economic harm
Rudraprayag is the district with the highest landslide density in the country. That is, this district is most prone to social and economic damage due to landslides. Same is the situation in Tehri district also. Both these districts are geographically smaller than the other districts. In this sense too, the landslide density has appeared to be large.
The least sensitive district is also in Uttarakhand
According to the Atlas, the first two districts most prone to landslides are in Uttarakhand while the least vulnerable districts Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar are also in the state. The whole state is sensitive from the point of view of landslides.

The entire Himalayan region is prone to landslides. There should be a detailed study on the basis of this report of NRAC. What is the actual loss due to landslide. What population is it affecting? With this, policy regulators can decide what kind of planning they have to do.
