World Boxing Championship: Cheetah ‘Veera’ will be the mascot of women’s championship, India ready for tournament
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on Friday unveiled the mascot ‘Veera’ for the upcoming IBA Women’s World Championship 2023. The tournament will be held from March 15 to March 26 at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi. The mascot was unveiled in the presence of Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur and BFI President Ajay Singh, besides Indian athletes participating in the prestigious event.
The mascot Cheetah, named Veera, is a symbol of strength, valor, valor and courage. Like the world’s fastest animal cheetah, boxers defeat their opponents with great agility in the ring. In this context, Veera seems to represent women boxers as an icon of strength and courage.
Anurag Singh Thakur said, “We have to get used to hosting (big) international events. As we are conducting the World Boxing Championships, I would request Ajay ji to allow young boxers from all over the country to come here and compete in Indian competitions.” And should give an opportunity to watch international stars as well as meet coaches through a special event. This can be a great opportunity for them to get an idea of how to prepare to reach that level in future. I congratulate BFI, Ajay Singh and his team for hosting the Boxing World Championships for the third time and wish all the best to all the athletes.”
Accepting the suggestion of the Hon’ble Minister, BFI President Ajay Singh said that BFI will try its best to bring young boxers and coaches from across the country to the tournament, giving them an opportunity to watch and learn from the top stars of the sport.
BFI President Ajay Singh said, “Anurag Singh Thakur has taken it upon himself to ensure that India becomes a force to be reckoned with in the world of sports. Boxing is trying to contribute to that larger cause. We are the number three boxing nation in the world. We are very proud of our women’s boxing team. The tournament will see the largest number of countries and boxers participate. We just hope that all of you (boxers) do very well and put on a great show for the whole world.”
