New Delhi: ‘We are policemen, get your bags checked’… thugs used to loot thousands of dollars by posing as fake policemen… 2 arrested

The Special Staff Police team of South West district has arrested two thugs of Irani gang. The thugs used to carry out the incident of cheating with the people by pretending to be policemen. Along with the arrest, the police also recovered USD 1120, 10 Dirham, 150 Euro, two sedan cars, police department stickers and five fake number plates from their possession. The accused are natives of Balochistan in Iran. Lived here in Noida Sector 168. They have been identified as Golam Bahrani alias Khalid Khan and Mojtaba Jolfagri.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj C said that on March 12, complainant Fatih Jama Muhammad Faith, an Iranian citizen, lodged a complaint of robbery at the Vasant Kunj South police station. In his statement to the police, he told that he was standing near Fox Apparels shop in Mahipalpur when three-four people in a Swift car approached him. He introduced himself as a policeman and asked the complainant to check his bag. When he handed over his bag for checking, the accused fled from the spot with USD 1680 kept in his bag. On the complaint of the victim, the police registered a case under relevant sections and started investigation. During the investigation, on March 14, the police station came to know from secret sources that the accused belonged to Irani gang and they were about to meet in Noida to execute another incident. Based on the information, the police arrested the two accused by laying a trap on the spot in a planned manner. Along with the arrest, the police also recovered the said foreign currency from the possession of the accused.

During interrogation, the accused told the police that they used two sedan cars with different fake number plates to commit the crimes. The police also recovered both the sedan cars, five fake number plates and stickers of the police department at the instance of the accused. Before committing the crime, the accused used to change the number plates of the cars and put stickers of the police department on them. Accused Golam Bahrani told the police that they had come to Delhi from Iran a few years ago. After this, he formed an Irani gang with some of his acquaintances from Iran. They mostly used to present themselves as policemen in front of foreigners and carry out the fraud with them. For this, they used to target foreign citizens walking on the roads.
