Sorry I am late… when CJI Chandrachud apologized in the courtroom for 10 minutes delay

Chief Justice of India Dr. Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud (CJI DY Chandrachud) is counted among very disciplined judges. Justice DY Chandrachud is very punctual and does not like procrastination. He himself goes ahead and sets an example for this. If CJI Chandrachud is a little late, he does not hesitate to apologize immediately. One such incident happened a few months ago.
According to a report in The Week, one day Justice Chandrachud was 10 minutes late in reaching the courtroom. When he reached, he first said sorry, CJI said, ‘Sorry, I was discussing something with fellow judges… That’s why I got late. It is not common for a Supreme Court judge to apologize at such a short notice, but Justice Chandrachud often does so.
Remembering Justice Chandrachud (CJI DY Chandrachud), retired judge of Allahabad High Court, Justice Pradeep Kumar Singh says that he is very disciplined and follows the law strictly. Have similar expectations from others Justice Chandrachud’s other fellow judges also say that they do not hesitate to tell the truth and tell the truth with a smile. This is his speciality.
Justice Chandrachud says that the judges of the Supreme Court work seven days a week. Recently in the India Today Conclave, he said that the work we do during the timing of the court i.e. from 10:30 am to 4:00 am is only a small part of our work. The preparation of the cases that we have to hear the next day also takes the same amount of time. Decisions of all cases are reserved, which are prepared on Saturday and then on Sunday, preparations have to be made for Monday’s cases.
Meanwhile, the CJI had told how he was working during the last winter vacation as well. CJI Chandrachud says that all the cases were such, on which a decision had to be given. So, to save time, I was working on the judgment with my judicial clerk even during the holidays.
Justice Chandrachud (CJI DY Chandrachud) does not like to show off; Advocate Mansi Chowdhary, who worked with him, writes an incident related to this in her blog. In a blog written on the occasion of CJI Chandrachud’s 60th birthday in the year 2019, she tells that once he took his colleagues to eat at a famous restaurant in Delhi. There she waited for her turn in line like an ordinary man. She writes that if Justice Chandrachud wanted, he could have booked a table on a phone, but he did not do so.
According to Mansi Chaudhary, Justice Chandrachud (CJI DY Chandrachud) takes full care of his colleagues and takes care of small things. Mansi writes that one day she got fever while working with Justice Chandrachud. Health deteriorated so much that vomiting started in the office itself. When Justice Chandrachud came to know, he immediately gave medicine and took him to rest in his guest room. She writes that not only law, kindness and generosity can also be learned from Justice DY Chandrachud.
