Professor Alok Gupta was murdered during a robbery at his house in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. UP Police has killed dacoit Shahbaz involved in this incident. In retaliation the police killed him.
According to media reports, on the intervening night of 18-19 September, there was a robbery in the house of Professor Alok Gupta, resident of Katra police station area of Shahjahanpur district. During this time the 35 year old professor suddenly woke up. He opposed the dacoits. The bandits attacked the professor with knives. The professor died due to multiple knife wounds. Even his eye was broken. The professor’s wife, father, brother, sister-in-law and children, who came to save him, were also injured by the dacoits with sharp weapons.
Despite being injured, the family members caught Shahbaz and his companion Shahroz. The remaining dacoits had escaped. As soon as information about the incident was received, the police reached the spot. The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem. The injured were admitted to the hospital for treatment. The injured also include 3 and 4 year old children. Tension spread in the area after the incident. Some people had blocked the road in protest. The police registered a case and started investigating the matter. A reward of Rs 75 thousand was announced on the absconding dacoits.

Several police teams have been deployed to catch the dacoits. Police also got information that the arrested dacoit Shahbaz was also wanted for the murder of another drug dealer. The police detained Shahbaz and started taking him to court for appearance. During this time an animal came on the road. While trying to save the animal, the driver of the police vehicle lost control and the vehicle overturned. As soon as the car overturned, Shahbaz snatched the service revolver of Sub Inspector Hitesh Tomar who was accompanying him and ran towards the fields. When the police asked him to stop, Shahbaz started firing.
The police also retaliated. Shahbaz was seriously injured by the bullet fired in this encounter. Took him to the hospital, where he died. Shahroz has been arrested and is being interrogated and other legal procedures are being carried out. 40-year-old Shahbaz once used to drive an e-rickshaw, while Shehroz works in a salon.
