Minor girl student raped in school toilet in Odisha, accused teachers sent to jail

It is alleged that during this time the headmaster and another teacher of the government residential school forcibly entered the toilet and raped the student. Officials said both the accused were arrested and later sent to jail after being produced before the POCSO court in Nabarangpur. Government lawyer Sachchidanand Swain said that the accused were produced before the court of Special Judge Pranati Saha, from where they were sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Meanwhile, taking the issue seriously, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has sought a report from the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Navrangpur. OHRC has also directed the CDMO cum Public Health Officer (PHO) to submit a report within four weeks. The commission asked the CDMO to ensure proper treatment of the girl in the hospital.
The incident, which took place on Tuesday, came to light on November 9 when the girl felt pain in her lower stomach and called her parents.

A case has been registered against the teachers under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Police said that the victim has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Nabarangpur, where she is undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the opposition BJP and Congress came down hard on the BJD government in the state and held it responsible for the rise in crimes against women, especially minor girls.
