Uttar Pradesh: Youth dies due to ‘stampede’ during police raid, 7 policemen including outpost in-charge suspended

After the news of death of one person due to stampede during a raid in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh came to light, the policemen who went to conduct the raid have been punished. According to the information given by a police officer, a raid by 7 policemen, including police sub-inspector, who arrived on the information of gambling in the Sardarnagar police post area of Bareilly, resulted in one person getting injured during a stampede and his life was lost on Friday evening. After the death, everyone was suspended on charges of gross negligence in performing duty and indiscipline.

‘Santosh Kumar was injured in the stampede’

Bareilly Superintendent of Police (Rural) Mukesh Chandra Mishra said that on Thursday night at around 8 pm, on information regarding gambling being played in the ground outside village Alampur Jafrabad, outpost in-charge, Sardarnagar Tinku Kumar reached the spot along with 6 policemen. Mishra said that when the police reached the spot, a stampede broke out there, in which 46-year-old Santosh Kumar was seriously injured. Santosh Kumar was admitted by his family to a hospital in Bareilly for treatment, where he died on Friday evening. Mishra said that Santosh’s family has filed a complaint regarding this in Bhamaura police station, after which the investigation of the case has been handed over to the Superintendent of Police (Rural).

Family alleges death was due to beating

Mishra said that Santosh’s family members have accused the policemen of Sardarnagar outpost in Tahrir that Santosh died due to police beating. He said that after the postmortem report comes and investigation at the spot, action will be taken on the complaint given by the family members at Bhamaura police station. Bareilly SSP said that outpost in-charge Tinku Kumar, head constables Pushpendra Rana and Manoj Kumar, constables Ankit Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Satyajit Singh and Mohit Kumar were suspended on charges of negligence, not informing higher officials regarding the incident and indiscipline.
