India invites Taliban ambassador to UAE as guest on Republic Day
Preparations for Republic Day celebrations are going on in full swing across the country. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has invited Taliban envoy Badruddin Haqqani as the guest of honor for the Republic Day celebrations. India’s Ambassador to UAE Sanjay Sudhir has sent an invitation to the Taliban government’s ambassador there, Badruddin Haqqani, and his wife for the ceremony. This program is to be held in Abu Dhabi.
Mention of ‘Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’ in the invitation
Afghan journalist Bilal Sarwari has tweeted the photo of the invitation letter. In this invitation letter issued in the name of Sudhir and his wife Vandana, Haqqani and his wife have been invited to attend the function to be held on January 26. According to reports, the invitation was addressed to the envoy of the ‘Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’, which was represented by Ashraf Ghani before the Taliban took over.
Why was the invitation sent to the Taliban envoy?
India has not given diplomatic recognition to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, but this is a truth which has to be accepted. Proceeding cautiously on this issue, India is also in talks with the Taliban in Kabul and has deployed a technical team there. India, like the international community, is in talks with the Taliban government. Sending invitation to Haqqani is being considered as an extension of this policy.
What is the meaning of step?
In fact, many recent incidents are being linked to this step. Last month, China had given ambassadorial recognition to a Taliban official posted in Beijing. China was the first country to do so.
Apart from this, tension has recently increased between Pakistan and Afghanistan regarding Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and illegally entered citizens. Analysts are considering this step of India as important from diplomatic point of view.
Who are Haqqani?
Badruddin Haqqani was appointed Afghanistan government’s ambassador to the UAE in October last year. He is the son of Jalaluddin Haqqani. His brother’s name is Sirajuddin Haqqani, who is the Home Minister of Afghanistan. Let us tell you that Sirajuddin Haqqani is the person who founded the Haqqani network. This group was involved in the terrorist attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul in 2008 and is currently part of the Taliban government.
