‘Seizure of Rs 4650 crore including cash and liquor…’, the biggest action of the Election Commission so far amid the election campaign

The Election Commission is taking strict action to stop the use of money power to woo voters in the elections which are called the festival of democracy. The Election Commission has created a record of seizing illegal money, free seeds, narcotics and precious metals during the 2024 general elections. The Commission said that since March 1, goods worth an average of Rs 100 crore or Rs 100 have been seized every day continuously.

‘Things worth Rs 100 crore seized every day’

According to the Election Commission, ECI is taking strict action against those instigating Lok Sabha elections. The commission has recorded the seizure of illegal money, free seeds, narcotics and precious metals during the Lok Sabha elections. In its 75-year history, the Election Commission has seized goods worth an average of Rs 100 crore or Rs 100 every day across the country since March 1 to curb the use of black money and money power in elections.

The Commission said that since the announcement of the elections, i.e. even before the start of the first phase of voting, Rs 4650 crore has been seized. This amount is much more than the total seizure made during the 2019 general elections. With the alert and coordinated cooperation of the general public, Income Tax, Income Tax Intelligence Surveillance Department, Customs, Excise, local police and paramilitary forces officials, the Commission will continue to take similar actions with strictness.

Highest cash found in Tamil Nadu

The Election Commission also said that the maximum amount of cash has been recovered from Tamil Nadu, Rs 53 crore, Telangana Rs 49 crore, Maharashtra Rs 40 crore and Karnataka and Rajasthan more than Rs 35 crore each.

In the last Lok Sabha elections, Rs 844 crore cash was seized, but this time Rs 395 crore has been seized so far. Similarly, in the last election, liquor worth Rs 304 crore was seized, but this time till now liquor worth Rs 490 crore has been seized.

The figure of drugs in the last election was Rs 1280 crore. This time drugs worth Rs 2068 crore have been seized. Goods worth Rs 1142 crore have been seized against free seeds worth Rs 60.15 crore.

Actually this incident is of 3rd August. Where Herbertpur police got information about a fire in a house in Rambagh area. When the police reached the spot, they found the burnt body of an old woman inside. The owner of the house, Sanjay Singh Rana, identified the body as his wife Suresho Devi alias Vandana Rana. Earlier it seemed that the woman died due to burning in the fire but the investigation revealed the case of murder. In such a situation, today the police has arrested him. Murdered mother when he did not get money for drugs The next day of the incident, the husband of the deceased, Sanjay Singh, while giving a complaint to the police, told that his son Manmohan Singh used to live with his mother. He was addicted to drugs and often used to demand money from his mother. There used to be a lot of quarrel between the two when the mother refused. The father told that Manmohan was missing from home since the incident. After which, he expressed doubt that maybe his son had committed the murder and set the room on fire. The police already suspected the son The police immediately registered a case against the son and started investigation. After which, on the night of 14 August, the police arrested Manmohan Singh from Kulhal area. During interrogation, Manmohan Singh confessed his crime. He told that he has been addicted to drugs for a long time. He has already gone to jail in drug smuggling and Arms Act cases. On the day of the incident, he had asked his mother for money for drugs. But his mother refused to give him money and also did not let him go out of the house. He fled with the money after the murder After which, Manmohan Singh, in anger, attacked his mother’s neck with a wooden stick kept in the house. Due to which she died on the spot. After the murder, Manmohan Singh wrapped the body in a mattress and set it on fire so that it appeared that the woman died due to burning. Manmohan fled on a motorcycle with 30 thousand rupees kept in the cupboard of the house and his clothes.
