Air India found the passengers’ baggage heavy, reduced the weight limit, know what is the new limit

Loss-making Air India has reduced its free cabin baggage allowance for the lowest economy fare segment on domestic flights from 20 kg to 15 kg. These changes come as part of the menu-based pricing model Fare Families introduced by Tata Group-owned Air India last August. The airline has claimed that a one-size-fits-all approach is no longer possible.
Let us tell you that in Air India’s domestic flights, passengers were allowed to carry 25 kg of cabin baggage without any extra charge, while other domestic carriers like Indigo, Vistara and SpiceJet offered 15 kg of cabin baggage without any extra charge.
Air India said the three fare groups – Comfort, Comfort Plus and Flex – offer different levels of benefits and fare restrictions at different price points. According to the airline’s statement, the free cabin baggage allowance for ‘Comfort’ and ‘Comfort Plus’ classes has been reduced to 15 kg from 20 kg and 25 kg respectively.
On domestic routes in economy class, both ‘Comfort’ and ‘Comfort Plus’ fare families now offer 15 kg baggage allowance, while ‘Flex’ offers 25 kg allowance. Business class baggage allowance on domestic routes ranges from 25 kg to 35 kg. An airline spokesperson said that free baggage allowance on international flights varies from market to market.
