The country’s Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is stranded in a remote village in Milam Valley of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. Efforts are on to rescue him. Due to bad weather, his helicopter had to make an emergency landing. Uttarakhand’s Additional Election Commissioner Vijay Jogdande is also with him.
Stranded in a deserted village, had to break the lock
Central Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar was going to Milam in Pithoragarh to see the election process at high altitude. Meanwhile, due to bad weather, his helicopter had to make an emergency landing. The helicopter has landed in the border Ralam village. Uttarakhand’s Additional Election Commissioner Vijay Jogdande is also present with Rajiv Kumar. According to the information received, the village in which both the officers are stranded is currently deserted. All the people of the village have migrated to lower areas. In such a situation, to avoid the cold at night, both the officers were forced to break the lock of a house and take shelter.
There is no road in the village, rescue teams are reaching by trekking
According to the information received, the village where both the officers are stranded is about 200 km away from the district headquarters and is far from the motor road. In such a situation, to reach both the officers, the rescue teams will have to travel about 25 km through trekking. Three teams have been dispatched to rescue both the officers. Some local people from the surrounding area have also been sent.
The track is full of dangers at night, there may be a delay
It is being told that walking on this track at night is dangerous and in such a situation the rescue teams have to take a lot of risk. In such a situation, delay in rescue is possible. Earlier the officials had hoped that the teams would reach by 10 pm. However, now there is a possibility of reaching by 1 am. However, even after the teams reach, both the officers will not be able to be rescued at night. Both the officers may have to spend the night in Ralam village itself.
Rajiv Kumar has come earlier also, had visited Dumak
CEC Rajiv Kumar had earlier also visited the remote Dumak village in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand in a similar program. In 2022, Rajiv Kumar had reached Dumak by walking 18 kilometers and met the people.
