Uttarakhand: Rishikesh-Karnprayag New BG Rail Project, Excavation of 9 km long main tunnel between Srinagar and Dungripath completed

Rishikesh-Karnprayag New BG Rail Line Project: In Package 6, 9.05 km of excavation work of main tunnel (tunnel no. 11) from Srinagar (GITI ground) to Dungripath (Dhari Devi station yard) has been successfully completed. On Tuesday, January 21, at 3 pm, the final breakthrough of the main tunnel between Portal One and Adit Five was successfully completed.
Main Tunnel and Auxiliary Structures Along with the construction of main tunnel (MT) and emergency escape tunnel (ET) under Package 6, two additional adit tunnels have also been constructed to speed up the work. Adit five is located near Srikot Ganga Valley and Adit 6 is located in Suit village.
Final concrete lining work continues after excavation: After the excavation of the tunnel, the work of final concrete lining is in full progress. So far, 58.31% (5.29 km) lining work has been completed in the main tunnel and 40% (3.6 km) lining work has been completed in the escape tunnel.
Let us tell you that the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line is 126 km long, which will run from Rishikesh’s Yoga Nagari railway station to Karnaprayag in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand state of India. After the completion of this project, it will be easy for people to go on Chardham Yatra. Apart from this, tourism activities will also increase in Garhwal. This project is expected to be completed by the end of the year 2026.
