The time of decision has come for the election of urban government. Voting took place for 100 municipal bodies on Thursday. The way people showed enthusiasm in urban areas during the election campaign, it has raised hopes that this time the voting percentage will be much higher than last time.

In the last civic election, 69.75 percent of the voters exercised their franchise. The State Election Commission has set a target of taking the voting percentage to more than 75 percent this time. In such a situation, everyone will also keep an eye on the voting behavior in the civic election this time.

Half the population participated enthusiastically

If we look at the picture of civic elections, then there has been a lot of enthusiasm among the voters for the election of their representatives. The reason is that while voting, they keep in mind the personal image of the candidate, the development of their city and ward. As a result, the voting percentage in civic elections remains decent.

If we look at the last civic election held in the year 2018, 69.75 percent of the voters exercised their franchise. Half the population participated enthusiastically in this. Then elections were held for 84 bodies.

Number of Municipal Bodies increased to 107

Now the number of municipal bodies in the state has increased to 107, out of which elections are being held for 100. The number of voters in these bodies is also 6.51 lakh more than the last election.

Last time the number of voters was 23.78 lakh. In view of all this, the State Election Commission has set a target of more than 75 percent voting in the civic elections this time. Awareness programs were also conducted for this.

Not only this, if we talk about the election campaign, then a good crowd gathered in the meetings and other programs held during this period. In these too, the participation of women and youth was high.

The voters also put forward the problems related to their city and ward before the candidates and supporters who came to their doorstep. In such a situation, they will also test the candidates. In view of all this, it is expected that voters will exercise their franchise as much as possible to improve the urban areas.

Elections will be held later in four bodies

Among the seven municipal bodies where elections are not being held, Badrinath, Gangotri and Kedarnath are in the non-elected category. That is, elections are not held in these and the government nominates the president and ward members there.

In the remaining four bodies, the commission could not receive the delimitation report in the Nagar Palika Parishad Narendra Nagar and Kichha. Apart from this, other processes including delimitation are to be done in the newly formed Nagar Panchayat Gadhinegi and Pati. As a result, elections in these four bodies will be held later.
