Uttarakhand: UCC rules approval case, Election Commission sought information from the government on Congress’ complaint

In view of the municipal elections, the Model Code of Conduct is in force in the municipal areas of Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, during the Dhami cabinet meeting held on January 20, the cabinet approved the UCC rules. Only after the approval of the UCC rules from the cabinet, the opposition party Congress accused the government of violating the Model Code of Conduct. Also, on January 20 itself, a delegation of the Congress Party met the State Election Commission and submitted a memorandum regarding the violation of the Model Code of Conduct. In view of which, the State Election Commission has sent a letter to the government on January 21 and sought information in this regard.

In fact, the Uttarakhand government had sought permission from the State Election Commission to convene a cabinet meeting amid the Model Code of Conduct. For which a letter regarding the permission of the cabinet was also sent by the Uttarakhand government to the State Election Commission. Permission to hold the cabinet meeting was given conditionally by the State Election Commission. After this, a cabinet meeting was convened in the Secretariat on January 20. Also, the Uniform Civil Code rules were approved during the cabinet meeting. Also, the cabinet had authorized Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding the dates for implementation of Uniform Civil Code.

At the same time, giving more information, Secretary of State Election Commission Rahul Kumar Goyal said that a letter was sent to the Commission by the government regarding convening the cabinet meeting. On which the State Election Commission, after considering, gave conditional permission to convene the cabinet meeting. But the State Election Commission received a letter from the Congress Party, in which the Congress Party said

The State Election Commission has sent a letter to the Uttarakhand government on this matter and sought information. Therefore, after getting information from the Uttarakhand government, a decision will be taken according to whatever situation arises.
