Fierce clash between Taliban and Pakistan, Torkham border becomes a battleground, firing from tanks and cannons

Sporadic military clashes between the Afghan Taliban and the Pakistani army have started once again. Taliban fighters and Pakistani soldiers are firing at each other with light and heavy weapons near the Torkham crossing. Tanks and cannons are also being used. These attacks have caused panic among the people living around the border. Pakistan had closed the Torkham border crossing a few days ago. The Taliban expressed strong displeasure over this. However, Pakistan rejected the Taliban’s request citing security reasons.
Both sides firing with heavy weapons
According to Amu News, security officials said that both sides have used heavy weapons, causing fear and panic among the residents of the area. Several rockets and shells reportedly fell on residential houses near the conflict zone, causing property damage. The fighting began at 2:30 am Kabul time on Monday, March 3, and continued intermittently. Pakistani sources said three Pakistani soldiers were injured and a truck driver was killed in the ongoing clashes. The Taliban have not yet commented on the situation.
Torkham border closed for 10 days
The border crossing at Torkham has been closed for 10 days, with Pakistani officials citing Taliban checkpoints and the construction of bunkers close to the border as the reason for the closure. On Sunday, Taliban representatives and Pakistani officials held a meeting to resolve the dispute, but the talks ended without any success. Due to the border closure, there are queues of vehicles and people on both sides. The Torkham border is a major transit point between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
