Uttarakhand: Avalanche in Changthang near Gangotri Highway, many areas including Dham cut off from the headquarters

For the third time, an avalanche has occurred in Changthang between Dharali and Jangla bridge on Gangotri Highway. Due to this, the international border including Gangotri Dham was cut off from the district headquarters. The District Disaster Management Department has confirmed this.

Last month on 28 February, due to snowfall in the high altitude areas of the district, there was a heavy avalanche near Dabrani, Jhala and between Dharali and Bhairoghati. The Meteorological Department had warned of avalanches in high altitude areas.

After this, a big avalanche occurred near Changthang ahead of Dharali. Due to snowfall, the Gangotri Highway was closed and movement was stopped there. The avalanche occurred about 100 meters below the Gangotri Highway till Bhagirathi River.
