Uttarakhand / Chamoli: Leopard fatally attacks woman, condition critical, panic prevails in the area
In Nel Kudav village of Dasholi block of Chamoli district, a leopard fatally attacked a woman who had gone to defecate. Fortunately, on hearing the woman’s screams, the villagers reached the spot and seeing the crowd, the leopard got scared and ran away. The woman has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The incident took place on Sunday morning at around 5:30 am. According to the information received, Heera Devi (42), wife of Raghuveer Singh Rawat, had gone out to defecate as usual. During this time, a leopard sitting in ambush in the bushes suddenly attacked the woman. Heera Devi was seriously injured in the attack. The villagers hurriedly admitted Mahia to the district hospital Gopeshwar. Deep marks of leopard’s claws were found on the woman’s neck.
An atmosphere of panic in the area
As soon as the information was received, forest sarpanch Virendra Aswal informed the Kedarnath Wildlife Division about the matter. The forest department team has reached the spot and patrolling has been increased in the area. Villagers say that two leopards are active in the area, which have been seen near the village many times. This has created an atmosphere of panic in the entire village. People have demanded from the forest department that the leopards should be caught soon, so that no such incident occurs in future.
